Definitions
Medical adult day services or adult day health services in NYS:
- Medically-supervised services for individuals with physical or mental impairment (examples: children, people with dementia, or AIDS patients)
- Services include: Nursing, transportation, leisure activities, physical therapy, speech pathology, nutrition assessment, occupational therapy, medical social services, psychosocial assessment, rehabilitation and socialization, nursing evaluation and treatment, coordination of referrals for outpatient health, and dental services. Respite.
Social Adult Day Programs:
Care for frail and disabled older adults in a supervised group setting within the community. Services include socialization activities, supervision and monitoring, and nutrition. Programs also provide personal care that includes hands on assistance with mobility, eating, and toileting (including care of incontinence). Respite.
